Here in Ardscull, what started as an empty, overgrown field is slowly turning into something much greener and more interesting. This garden is a personal project—an attempt to carve out a little oasis in the middle of farmland, where plants, trees, and wildlife can all find a home.
It all began back in 2009, with nothing but rough grass and big ideas. Bit by bit, it’s grown into a collection of trees and plants—some familiar, others a bit more unusual—that I’ve gathered over the years. The idea has always been simple: to mix things up, bring a bit of the magic of botanic gardens home, and see what thrives.
For me, it’s about creating something to enjoy day to day, but also something lasting—a place that can grow and change long into the future, and hopefully spark some curiosity about nature along the way. Every tree tells a bit of the story, and there are still plenty more waiting in pots for their turn in the ground.
The garden isn’t formal or grand; it’s a bit of a patchwork, with trees squeezed in wherever there’s space. But that’s part of its charm—watching it all settle in and become its own thing over time. My hope is that it keeps growing into a place that’s full of life, colour, and small surprises.
